Music trend in Pokhara

Pokhara is famous for music. Pokhreli music is also famous in Nepal. Pokhara has got many good artists and melody makers which has enhanced local people and other visitors. Some decades ago, the population of Pokhara was not like as it is now. The number of population was very less because people used to live in villages and Pokhara was not so developed. Around Pokhara valley there were many gurung villages,magar villages, kami villages, damai villages and many other communities. Gurung, magars, gaine were popular for singing and dancing. Damai community was popular for singing, dancing as well as performing musical instruments in marriage ceremony. At that time, there were no modern musical instruments like guitar, drum, piano, violin. But instead there were madal, sarangi, basuri,harmonium, panche baja and many other. But now the use of these instruments are seen to be getting extinct because they left their profession which was running from their father's generation.
There are many types of music performed in Pokhara.Some people are interested in folk music(folk songs and dohori), some are interested in rock music and some like sentimental songs.But this days, many youngsters are interested in rock, blues, punk and metal songs. The youngsters are getting influenced by western music and forgetting our Nepalese music. Nowadays, the sound of Sarangi isn't heard.Now there are many bands and groups of talented musicians in Pokhara. Time to time, many musical programmes are organized which enhance and give opportunity to youngsters to show their talent. There are many restaurants and bars in Pokhara where every night musical programmes are performed by talented musicians of Pokhara. Many tourists as well as Pokhreli go to bars and enjoy the music. There are many restaurants and bars in Lakeside,Chipledhunga, Mahendrapool and Prithvi chowk.
